Michael Benfell Hanshi visited Colchester to teach members of the club. The day consisted of 5 hours of empty hand and weapon training. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day evn though it was physically and mentally tiring. At the end of the day Hanshi awarded members a course certificate. Remember that there is so much to gain from attending these courses. Extra attendance to these sessions are taken into consideration when assessing members for gradings.

Well done to you all. Thank you to Hanshi for his time.

News Club Triumps Again

EKKA - BT Exact Open - 18th November 2007

Well done to the team who represented Colchester Wado Ryu Karate at the latest competition in Ipswich.

The team returned to Colchester with two-1st place, four-2nd place and three-3rd place awards for their hard work and efforts.

Laura Parker brought home 3rd in the 5'2"-5'8" girls 3rd-4th kyu kumite. Excellent result as it was her first kumite competition. Laura was only just outside a placing for her kata so a very well done.

Abi won a 3rd in the Ladies 3rd kyu and above Japanese kata. Although Abi has competed before, this was her first competition representing Colchester Wado Ryu Karate so well done.

Sabrina also came 3rd in the mixed senior 6th-4th kyu Japanese kata.

Sabrina also came 2nd in the ladies 6th-4th kyu kumite.

Sian fought for the first time this competition and came 2nd in the girls 4’2”-4’8” kumite. Well done Sian.

Laura came 2nd in the ladies 3rd kyu and above Japanese kata.

Brandon got 1st place for the boys Dan grade kumite.

Sensei came 1st in the mens Dan grade Japanese kata.

Well done to everyone for all their determination and effort and putting on a great show in representing the Colchester Wado Ryu Karate Club.

Two members are nominated for competitors of the day

Brandon for overcoming older and more experienced competition in his Kata section resulting in a well deserved 2nd place. He wasn't very far behind the 1st place position either so well done.

Also Laura Parker for entering both Kata and Kumite. The first time you step onto the mats to fight is always the most daunting. Laura had two fights in her section against girls who had competed before, but she didn't let that put her off and just gave it her best. Achieving a well deserved 3rd place.

News EKKA Success Continues

Ipswich Competition - EKKA - 28th October 2007

Another great day was spent at the EKKA competition in Ipswich.

It was a longer day as we had more members representing Colchester Wado Ryu. Laura D, Brandon, David, Charlie, Laura P, Sian, Sabrina, Pete, Bethany & Nathan all tried their hardest in both Kata and Kumite resulting in 3-1st place, 5-2nd place and 2-3rd place awards.

The judging and refereeing seemed to be rather unfair on the day, even more so than usual but we still did well. Results;

Laura D-1st Kata, Brandon-3rd Kata & 2nd Kumite, David-2nd Kata, Charlie-3rd Kata, Sabrina-1st Kata & 2nd Kumite, Pete-1st Kata, Bethany-2nd Kumite.

For some it was their first experience of Competition, it shouldn't need to be their last. Everyone should be very proud of themselves. We will all develop so that our Karate becomes stronger, faster and more precise so long as we all practice hard. Thank you to you all for your continued support.

I hope everyone will agree that Bethany deserves to be Colchester Wado Ryu Karate's competitor of the day; her 2nd fight was awesome, so well done.

It is with deep regret that we must announce the death of Tom Baldwin Soke, Chairman of the World and British Federation of Martial Arts. He passed away in the early hours of this morning following serious illness. He will be sorely missed by all his friends and family. We respectfully remember his enormous contribution to the Martial Arts, particularly through the W.B.F.O.M.A. which will also be sadly missed. But our deepest sympathies now are with his family.
